The Beginning of Lent
Ash Wednesday is tomorrow which signals the beginning of Lent. Lent is an opportunity to grow in your love and service to Jesus Christ. I would encourage all of us to consider how you will draw closer to Jesus Christ through prayer, scripture reading, fasting, service, meditation or abstinence. If you missed worship last Sunday (Feb. 11th) then you can listen to my sermon from our website, app or youtube channel in order to learn how to take full advantage of this new season of Lent.
Tomorrow, Feb. 14th, between 12-1pm and 5-6pm, Pastor Marsha or I will be present in the sanctuary to administer the ashes. It is not a service, but a time of prayer and receiving. Feel free to come into the sanctuary and spend some time in prayer and repentance before receiving the sign of the cross in ash upon your forehead. On Sunday, we will begin a new sermon series called “The Gospel of Matthew”. Each week during Lent, we will learn about: A Teaching (Feb. 18th), A Healing (Feb. 25th), A Sinner and A Saint (Mar. 3rd), A Miracle (Mar. 10th) and A Parable (Mar. 17th) - all from the Gospel of Matthew. I would also like everyone in our church to consider reading through the entire Gospel of Matthew at the same time. Commit to reading a chapter a day during the week and you will finish Matthew well before Easter. May God bless our season of Lent and make it a faithful blessing to our church.
